The Pot Shops

A decade ago, California became the first of a dozen states to legalize medical marijuana. Is the law working as intended and helping ease the pain of the truly ill? Or, are some people abusing the system just to get high? The federal government still views all marijuana as illegal and has been cracking down on the dispensaries where it is sold. Morley Safer explores California's pot laws and the business of medical marijuana.

I watched the segments on Medical Marijuana and am upset how the government states that selling a legal drug, marijuana, in the legal states are drug dealers, what does that make the pharmacuetical companies? Pill pushers??

Less govt intrusion on State Laws. More viable ways to cultivate the medicine without feeding the black market. Harsher punishment for doctors without ethics who prescribe ANY medicine without legitimate medical reasons.

It's funny how a natural drug like marijuana is so frowned upon and labeled so evil. Drugs like vicodin and oxycontin that are chemically produced and pushed by the corporate drug companies do not get the same punishment at the level marijuana does. Let's give the gov't another hand in the wonderful job of telling us what we need to hear.

All drugs provide a chemical that our bodies would otherwise produce. Our bodily systems detect the chemical provided by the drug and realize our production systems aren't needed. So, these systems deteroriate. This is true of all drugs, pharmaceutical and natural. They are all quick fixes that result in the atrophy of the body's underlying structure. Chemicals that cause energy to flow through the brain draw energy out of the body to do this. This depletes the body's energy. The atrophy of our body's own production systems means our brains don't continually draw energy up from the body to produce chemicals. This loss of the momentum of energy heading to our minds results in loss of motivation, sense of will and of connection to one's whole self. To feel good, aware and energized, people allow their bodies' own systems to build themselves up. This is done through sustainable methods that provide energy, such as exercise, good food and love. Drugs are an unsustainable source of energy for the body.

Al I have to say on this is: Why in the hell does our government think that this is something to be concerned about? I say our Government has enough to do right now about this war for the wrong reasons! Get our troops home & THEN maybe they will have more time to think up more ways to waste our tax dollars! This should be left to our state laws! I also agree with the previous comment that said: "How can the Govt. state that selling a LEGAL drug, Marijuana,in the legal states are drug dealers! What does that make the pharmacuetical companies? Pill pushers? EXACTLY!!! Nuff said!!

More states should "loosen up", and try the same thing! Only "The People" know what "The People" need!

Doesn't our government have something better to do than waste our tax dollars on this!? Selling a legal drug(marijuana), in legal states is drug dealing? I agree with the others--stating: "what does that make the pharmacetical companies? Pill pushers? Marijuana never killed anyone....but oxycontin has & so many other "legal drugs"! LEAVE THIS UP TO THE STATE LAWS! Our Government has sent our men & women off to fight a war that has no end & that is for all the wrong reasons! How many of our brave American Military will die in vain & never know the real reason they were sent there was a lie?!? Our government should be concentrating on more important things like trying to bring them home before we lose more lives than ANY drug has taken from us! The lucky ones who have been injured should be sent to the states where marijuana is legal! I'm sure there will be a lot who will need it! NUFF SAID!!!...Phantomsangel

Marijuana is completely safe and should be completely legalized for anyone who wants it. How many people ever died from marijuana overdose? None! How many people have died because of car accidents involving marijuana? None! Drunk driving? Millions over the years! Yet alcohol is legal! Why? Because of lobbying by alcohol and tobacco companies dont want the competition! Women use the tag line "keep your laws off of my body" to keep abortion legal. If I want to put marijuana in my body, it should be legal!
