Dog Nut

Everyone knows "The Simpsons," but you might not know how much the cartoon series has helped stray dogs and people in need. Sam Simon, one of the show's co-creators, has spent millions on a foundation which trains abandoned dogs to become service animals. It's a good deed that even Bart might appreciate! Morley Safer has the story.

I am a dog nut. I have saved 5 dogs from shelters. And just when I thought there was going to be hope for my white shep mix, I see that it may get worse. ahhhhhh... they are serious diggers. Oh my gosh...

I live in Baja California and average 5 dogs in my home, most in rehabilation from life on the streets. Actually I would like some help from "El Norte" in finding these guys homes, they're great friends, very protective, lots of street smarts and grateful for a chance just to live.

Seems like a very cool guy who's actually doing something with his money other than horde it or watching it grow. Not that he's not doing that as well, but at least he's looking beyond his own gated estate. I'm very impressed.

We have ten minature poodle/tebit terrier mixed dogs. Some of which we rescued from the shelter. You can ask for a better dog then one that has been rescued. They are so thankful. I highly recommend adoption rather that purchasing purebreed dogs. I use to breed Golden Retreivers and as much as I loved them, there's nothing like saving a dog from the shelter. I love reading good news for a change. thank you for this story. Malissa, NC

Is there any way to contribute to his fund? I'd be glad to donate a few dollars if it helps those poor creatures.

Way to go!! I remember when they got the greyhound...I used to rescue retired racing greyhounds. What a loving animal, they thrive on petting, as they never got it before. Please consider adopting a greyhound! You must have a fenced in yard! They can reach 40 mph in 4 leaps! and if they were tied up...their neck would snap. Thank You Sam Simon, You are one of the best...All animals will agree & Thank You!

THANK YOU SAM !!! All dogs need more people like you in the world. I think that is wonderful that you are doing this. It helps the animals and the people that they service. It is nice to know that people like yourself care.
