Background

There have been several major developments in the Duke lacrosse team sexual assault case.

Durham District Attorney Michael Nifong asked in January 2007 that the case be taken over by the North Carolina attorney general's office. Nifong faces allegations of ethical misconduct in the case.

Rape charges against Dave Evans, Collin Finnerty and Reade Seligmann were dropped by Nifong in December 2006, after it was revealed that there was DNA evidence from other men in the alleged victim but none from any of the Duke students.

Evans, Finnerty and Seligmann remain charged with sexual assault and kidnapping.
