Plumpy'nut

Every year, 5 million children die worldwide from malnutrition. That's one child every six seconds. Now, the relief group Doctors Without Borders says it has something that can save millions of these children. It's called "Plumpy'nut" - a ready to eat and cheap to produce food that might be the most important advance ever in the fight against malnutrition. Anderson Cooper saw the benefits of plumpy'nut firsthand in the African nation of Niger.

A pity: this might have been an interesting program, but there is NO WAY IN HELL I will watch it since it is riddled with more ads than regular TV. If there was an ad on the side while the clips were playing, that would be normal for internet, but this "Lets put the most annoying advertisment possible every 90 seconds" scheme not only make me want to deliberately avoid buying the product, but also it will be many months before I come back here to see if things have changed.

I think Plumpynut is another one dollar food capable to help malnourished children, like the ones in Niger, to achieve a normal growth, in places were water is contaminated to be used with powder milk or other cereals mixtures like Incaparina, used in Guatemala. The program has to be targeted on places with a high index of malnourishment and no way of getting enough food.

okay i honestly do feel for these children, and i am sure this sound horrible, but if i watched 4 of my children die because i couldnt feed them i think i would have one more at most that woman had two young twins plus another child after she couldnt feed the first 4 who died? wouldn't having smaller families on top of the aid help with this problem???

It could but very often they have no clue on how to avoid having children and there are many organizations that do try to teach family planning. Another reason is that kids are considered a blessing, they help around the house and in the fields and although it's hard the first years, if they make it to their teens they end up being the family's support. It's just a different culture and mindset.

Why is every problem in the world due to bush? These people where having too many babies long before the bush administration and will continue to have too many babies long after bush has left office. Who will you blame next? Maybe the fault is in a region of the world that just can not support that many people? Maybe its the fault of these corrupt African govts.? Maybe a desert is not a place to try and raise a family?
