Charlie Wilson's War

Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts' new movie "Charlie Wilson's War" is based on the work of the legendary late "60 Minutes" producer George Crile. Crile first broke the story of maverick Texas Congressman Charlie Wilson's role in funding the largest covert war in U.S. history, back in 1988 with Correspondent Harry Reasoner. It's a story of a fun-loving Texas Congressman who got the Afghans the weapons they needed to kick the Russians out of their country... inadvertently helping to set the stage for Bin Laden and the Taliban.

Did the U.S. walk away from Afghanistan after the Mujahedin defeated the Soviets? Did the Taliban step into the void and turn the country into an oppressive regime and make it into a safe haven for terrorism? Was the support of the Mujahedin largely covert? The answer to all is yes. Was Charlie Wilson (i.e., the U.S.) wrong to get involved in Afghanistan in the 1980s? Absolutely not. People seem to have short memories when a big budget movie comes out with good-looking celebrities. We were in a cold war and the Soviet Union was an ideologically-driven, expansionary threat armed to the teeth with the bomb. Helping the Mujahedin helped hasten the end of the cold war and that was a laudable goal. If criticism should be thrown any where, it should be that we didn't stay in Afghanistan to help the county back on its feet and away from fundamentalist Islam. Charlie Wilson is a hero and we did the right thing.

Old middle eastern proverb states that your enemy's enemy is not necessarily your friend- the United States created a Muslim "foreign legion" in Afganistan and now this same group of crazy fanatics are biting the hand that fed it...which bring me to another middle eastern story about a frog and a scorpion. A scorpion wanted to cross the Suez Canal - but scorpions can't swim - The scorpion spots a frog and ask the frog for a ride across the lake. The frog says "no way, you will sting me and I will die !" The scorpion says "if I sting you, you will die and sink and that will be the end of me as well. The frog listens to the logic and takes the scorpion on his back. Halfway across the scorpion sting the frog, As the frog dies he mutters " Why did you do that - now of both of us will die - where's the logic in your action". The scorpion smiles and before he disappears below the water remarks - "Ah, but this is the middle east" The Soviets may of been our enemy - but they understood that there would be no winners in a hot war between themselves and the west and we had a period of mainly peaceful co-existance for fifty years. Muslim Arabs on the other hand don't believe in logic - they believe in matrydom, jihad and other 12th century fairy tales.

Well Rabinoco is full of crap as are most WASP's with their red white and blue brainwashing. This is what you would expect from white euros. This is why white euros ( as the reality is, there is no such fantasy as a race called Americans) in the masses make such good sheople. They buy the bull@#$% their masters feed them and then repeat the factless garb themselves as if they thought it up themselves. They have a history of murder, destruction, corruption, tyranny, oppression and many more fine little adjectives and adverbs describing their deeds. Deeds and historical facts that most vegetables like yourself would be oblivious to. I dont give a damn if they are the lowest income peasant minded simpleton to the most moneyed up elitist superior minded white euro trash, they are all the same breed of animal with few exceptions given their numbers. I could sit and fill this site , hell for that matter one could fill the grand canyon with examples of the corrupt, illegal, unconstitutional, murderous, vile, so on and so on acts and facts but most idiots here would never get the point. Orwelle had your type correctly pegged as well. You have a police state forming since inception. Having never truly adhering to any of the higher principles that are claimed by this regime and those proles that blindly and obediently serve it with their ignorance. You, most all of you follow the white euro way, that seeks to and does control most of the known world with it's "white euro GREED CREED" which means if I as a ball less wonder cannot control it, own it, steal it then I will kill it or destroy it, even thought it's non mine. Though any minute look at white euro history globally tells you that last part never stopped them. I love what Martin Luther King said about this breed, " we will have to repent in this generation not merely for the hateful words and actions of the bad people but for the apalling silence of the good people." The problem with King's logic is that their are no good people there in that equation. They were bad people because they did nothing. Their ignorance and apathy but them on the bad side. Like you and millions of other white bred burbite cracker mentality types is that you follow Zoobs Law. People (or two legged animals they are) tend to oppose that which they do not understand, and the greater their ignorance, the greater the opposition.

Chahtass proves my point - logic has no place in the heart or mind of a fanatic.

Rabinoco’s recitation of sayings and proverbs doesn't do anything to diminish the fact that we should have been in Afghanistan. This certainly isn’t the first time we’ve confronted evil that is also complicated or bizarre. Stalin not only killed his enemies, but also had their images removed from photos. During WWII, the kamikazes were the latter-day jihadists. I’d be careful about giving the Soviets any credit or kid yourself with the ‘peaceful co-existence’ rubbish. The Soviets fought proxy wars against us in Korea and Vietnam and ran the tables in exporting communism in the 1970s in Southeast Asia and parts of Africa. Bottom is that radical jihadists are a threat we’ve seen before and have defeated. The only difference is that they carry the Koran and strap bombs to their chests. Afghanistan wound up incubating terrorists, and we bear much of the responsibility for that by not investing in that region like we did with the Marshall Plan in Europe after WWII. That said, we still should have been in Afghanistan.

Good Luck Joe - and yes we SHOULD be supporting those people who are fighting oppression - but we must be careful in whom we support - the Marshall plan worked because it supported people who believed in democratic ideals - we should aid those people who have a culture of logic and reason or at least with a leadership who believed in democracy.. We needed to support the Czechs in 68 or the democratic forces in Cuba and South America - not a bunch of religious fanatics or secular despots in the Middle East. In fact the only pro liberal democracy group in Iraq, the Chirstians Iraq are now worse of under elected @#$% es than they were under Saddam. Then again maybe you, Varonnes and Rudyard Kipling were right - it is the white's man burden to bring civilization to South Asia. Then again maybe Glenn Beck and the Israeli solution is the right one- build a wall around all the Arab and undemocratic countries.I personally don't think either is correct - but if I or anybody else would knew the right answer we would be the true messiah.
